Fandom's Unpopular Truth: The K-Dramas We Just Can't Bear! cover

Seoul, South Korea – In the vibrant world of K-Drama fandom, passion runs high, but so do strong opinions! We recently asked our international community a burning question: “What K-Drama have you officially put into your ‘Do Not Watch’ category?” The responses were swift, brutal, and utterly relatable, sparking a viral discussion that proves even the most anticipated dramas can fall short.

Leading the charge in the “tried but failed” column for many was Bride of the Water God. Despite a star-studded lineup featuring fan favorites Nam Joo-hyuk and Shin Sae-kyung, this fantasy romance struggled to captivate a significant portion of the audience. “This 😂 I actually heard a lot of good things abt this kdrama. Plus, Nam Joo-hyuk and Shin Sae-kyung as leads? Count me in,” one fan commented, expressing initial excitement. However, anticipation quickly turned to disappointment: “But I really tried, but it was just so boring. It fell flat for me.” The contrast with Nam Joo-hyuk’s previous success, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, was stark. “I had some expectation going in because of how much I enjoyed Weightlifting Fairy,” another viewer lamented, adding, “What a huge disappointment fr. He had so much chemistry with Lee Sung Kyung and just absolutely fell so flat in this drama. I remember when I watched this back then, I just slept lol.” Ouch!

But Bride of the Water God isn’t alone in facing the fandom’s blunt judgment. Our call-out also highlighted a diverse range of other K-Dramas that, for various reasons, just didn’t hit the mark. Suggestions for the “Do Not Watch” list included recent buzzy titles like Hierarchy and Twelve, alongside the quirky yet polarizing Chicken Nugget, with one fan noting, “the humour here is not for everyone.”

However, one particular drama drew fire comparable to our watery god: Love Alarm. “I would say that there are some other dramas I would put on your list which others enjoyed a lot, so I guess my taste is just off, but the one I would easily put first and is disliked a lot is Love Alarm,” shared a candid fan. Their description was vivid: “Watching that is the visual equivalent of an afternoon in a home for the elderly - completely uneventful and so boring it could literally make you sick.” Similarly, The Third Charm was mentioned as a major “no-go.”

It’s a powerful reminder that while K-Dramas bring us together, individual tastes are as unique as the dramas themselves. What’s a masterpiece for one might be a snooze-fest for another! What K-Drama would YOU put into the “Do Not Watch” category? Let us know and keep the conversation going!
